Chess in Hà Nội
Most chess in Hà Nội is taught before it is played: children’s academies with branches across Cầu Giấy, Thanh Xuân and Hai Bà Trưng, and the age-group and rated tournaments they run, many of them at 257 Bạch Mai. Around them sit university and neighbourhood clubs, a few cafés with boards, and player communities that meet for blitz. Academies open the page.

Chess960 in Hà Nội
Vietnamese tournament titles and organiser names on chess-results.com for 2025 to 2027 were searched for Chess960, Fischer Random, Freestyle and “cờ vua ngẫu nhiên”. One Hà Nội event names Chess960 in its title, beside chess and xiangqi; its listing does not say which of its sections was played with shuffled pieces.
Chess960 shuffles the back rank into one of 960 starting positions, so preparation gives way to thinking at the board from the first move. Between events in the city, it can be played online at ch960.com.

How the lists are kept
The cards rest mostly on the public tournament server chess-results.com, where Vietnamese organisers post their events, with the FIDE rated list, a few academies’ own websites and a directory of teaching centres alongside. A card gives the organiser, the venue line the server prints and the newest dated event. Each fact carries the day its page was opened.
Inside every list, the cards with the freshest dated sign of chess come first; the order is not a judgement. A fact no page states reads “not stated by sources” rather than a guess. What the status lines mean, and what is left unchecked, is explained under how we work.
Know a club or class that is missing?
Academies in Hà Nội open new branches, clubs change the room they rent, and a café can start a weekend blitz without telling the tournament server. A link to the page that shows it is enough.
